Photoespaña: first round!

Como cada año Photoespaña llega al verano madrileño para alegrárnoslo. Con este post comienza una serie que recorrerá TODAS ( y las que a mi más me gustaron) las salas que integran este festival de fotografía que se celebra hasta el 24 de Julio bajo la opinión de un humilde servidor. Espero que os guste y os anime a disfrutar de las exposiciones!


As each year , Photoespaña comes like summer for rejoice us in Madrid. With this post begins a series that will covers ALL (and my favourites) galleries that make up this festival of photography held until July 24 under a humble opinion. I hope you enjoy it and encourage you to enjoy the shows!



Empezaremos reseñando las dos muestras que recoge la Casa de América: //We Begin outlining the two samples shows the Casa de America:

- La primera "Un Mundo Feliz" de Carlos Endara es una seríe de retratos de la alta sociedad Panameña de principios de siglo. La verdad que me sorprendió la riqueza cultural de este país, la teatralidad en la composición de las fotos y ese encanto especial que tienen las fotos con el paso del tiempo.

- The first one "Brave New World" by Carlos Endara is a series of portraits of high society of the early century Panama. Actually I was surprised by the cultural wealth of this country, the theatricality in the composition of the photos and that special charm with photos over time.




- El Louvre y sus visitantes de Alécio de Andrade: Durante la década de los 90, este fotografo se dedicó a fotografíar a los visitantes mientras visitaban el museo del Louvre ( París) . Me encantó como capturó las miradas de inocencia de los niños observando arte.

- The Louvre and its visitors Alécio de Andrade: During the 90's, this photographer take the photos to visitors while visiting the Louvre Museum (Paris). I loved how it caught the eyes of innocence of children watching art.





Otra sede oficial es El Círculo de Bellas Artes que acoge la muestra titulada Paparazzo extraordinaire de Ron Galella: compartida también en la tienda de Loewe de Gran Vía. Me sorprendió mucho más la parte que esta expuesta en el círculo, recogen las miles de fotografías a todo el star system por un famosísimo paparazzi de la época dorada. No os perdáis el documental de la HBO que proyectan!

Another official seat is "El Círculo de Bellas artes" with the exhibition titled Paparazzo extraordinaire of Ron Galella, also shared with Loewe shop at Gran Via .I was very surprised over the part that is exposed in the circle, gather the thousands of photographs of the whole star system from the golden age of paparazzis. Do not miss the HBO documentary!




La sala Alcalá 31, que para mi gusto es quién organiza casi siempre las mejores exposiciones de Photoespaña. Este año me decepcionó un poquito, no es que la exposición este mal pero esperaba un poco más. Se titula 1000 caras /0 caras/ 1 rostro de Cyndy Sherman, Tomas Ruff y Frank Montero. Lo que más me gustó fueron la seríe del autobús de Cindy Sherman y los grandes retratos de Thomas Ruff.

"Alcalá 31", which in my opinion is who organizes almost always the best exhibitions of Photoespaña, This year I was a little disappointed, that exposure is not this bad but I expected a little more. 1000 caras / 0 caras / 1 rostro of Cyndy Sherman, Thomas Ruff and Frank Montero. What I liked best were the series of Cindy Sherman about a bus and the large portraits of Thomas Ruff.




En el instituto Cervantes hay un recopilatorio de fotógrafos latinoamericanos que reflexionan sobre la Violencia y los seres humanos , se titula Peso y Levedad. Aunque considero que este tema lo explotan demasiado en este centro, hubo dos autores que me gustaron muchísimo:
- Una de ellas fue Myriam Meloni y su retrato de los devastadores efecto de una droga llamada " Paco" en Argentina ( pelos de punta literalmente)

The Cervantes Institute is a compilation of American photographers who reflect on violence and human beings, is called Peso y Levedad. Although I believe that this issue is exploited too much in this center, there were two authors that I liked a lot:
- One was Myriam Meloni and his portrait of the devastating effect of a drug called "Paco" in Argentina (literally goosebumps)




- La seríe titualada "Diario" de Daniel Baca recoge la convivencia del paso del tiempo y el ser humano durante su trayectoria como fotoperiodista.

- The series tittled Diary of Daniel Baca shows the coexistence of time and man during his career as a photojournalist.




Por último, pero para mi la MEJOR hasta ahora, es la del ICO : el poder de la duda. Una reflexión sobre el mundo de hoy en día centrándose ( en su mayoría) en conflictos bélicos pero dando una visión completamente nueva. A destacar:

Last but for me the BEST so far is that of the ICO: the power of the doubt. A reflection on today's world focusing (mostly) in war but giving a completely new vision. Highlights:

- Jiang Zhi ( inconmensurable, genial!!!)



- Wangechi Mutu y sus collages




-Dinh q Lê y sus tramas fotográficas





- La experiencia visual de Pak Sheung Chuen, en la cual entras en un cuarto totalmente oscuro y necesitas de tu propia cámara ( no os la olvidéis ) para fotografiar la habitación y poder ver las fotos al salir de la misma. Una idea muy original y que te transmite cosas muy interesantes.

- The visual experience of Pak Sheung Chuen, where you enter a fully darkened room and you need your own camera (don´t forget it ) to photograph the room and see the photos when you get out. A very original idea and you spread things very interesting.
